In a news conference on Nov. 2, the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Admiral John Richardson briefed the public on the findings of the three separate inquiries into last summer’s collisions involving USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) and USS John S. McCain (DDG 56).

Seventeen sailors died in the two accidents, and costs to repair damage to the ships will likely exceed $500 million. War on the Rock’s Bryan McGrath has written a comprehensive summary of the CNO’s briefing, the lessons to date and what is next for the inquiries.
