The Houthis have been regularly launching missiles into Saudi territory, but Saturday's missile attack is an escalation, given its increase in distance and accuracy. The Saudis intercepted the ballistic missile with a U.S. surface-to-air Patriot missile and there were no casualties, but on Nov. 6, Saudi Arabian officials said that the latest missile attack could be considered an act of war by Iran.
Additionally, Saudi officials have claimed that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon has placed themselves on a war footing with the Saudis as well. Saudi Arabia is raising the stakes for Iran to compete for regional leadership and retaliation against Iran is likely.
