If true, it puts pressure on the U.S. military-industrial complex to respond in kind, if it hasn’t already. But if the past is prologue, weapons escalation can often lead to proxy warfare. This is done by passing along advanced technology to client states, who in turn use it against their common enemy.
Satellite-killing lasers may have similar impact on the U.S. that American anti-aircraft stingers had on the old Soviet military adventure in Afghanistan. That would be very disruptive, to say the least, to U.S. military power around the world.
