DARPA’s latest project brings us one more step closer to allowing fighter aircraft to deploy and recover unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in flight.
Imagine Battlestar Galactica releasing its fighters and you can see where this is going. Each of the Gremlin UAS can carry a 150-pound payload for various mission profiles and will have an expected lifetime of about 20 missions.
Already in the third and final phase of testing, DARPA hopes to demonstrate the capability by late 2019.
